This week, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition celebrates four decades of advocacy, transport economics guru John Pucher talks biking and walking at UC Berkeley, and the Green Building Conference tours SF streets.

• Wednesday (SJ) and Friday (SF): SPUR Forum: Using Social Networks to Improve Transport Planning. SPUR brings this lunchtime forum to both San Jose and SF, exploring how to improve transit, walking, and biking with social network applications. 12:30 p.m.
• Friday: EBBC’s 40th Anniversary Party: Biketopia. The East Bay Bike Coalition celebrates its history while looking to the future. Join the party for a silent auction, food, drinks, music, and more. 5:30 p.m.
• Also Friday: Cycling and Walking for Sustainable Cities: Lessons from Europe and North America. John Pucher, professor of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, leads this talk at UC Berkeley, arguing that high rates of walking and bicycling are not incompatible with our country’s car-centric cities. 4 p.m.
• More Friday: SJ Bike Party: Hillbilly Hoedown Ride. Grab your banjo and coveralls for this down-home, nighttime ride through the streets of San Jose. 8 p.m.
• Saturday: Green Building Conference Tour: Greening the Street, Block, Neighborhood and City. Led by a group of planning, policy, and operations professionals, this tour of SF streets and public spaces will explore innovative ways to implement the city’s Better Streets Plan. (Registration is closed.) 8 a.m.
• Also Saturday: Green Connections: Concept Design in Potrero Hill. Hear an overview of the Green Connections project and discuss with planners and neighbors what a “Green Connection” could look like in Potrero Hill. 10 a.m.
