This Week in Livable Streets Events
This week, get an update on the F-Line extension to Fort Mason, speak up at the final hearing on the JFK Bikeway, and enjoy Sunday Streets in the Mission. Here are the highlights from the Streetsblog calendar:
- Monday: PUBLIC Book Talk: How Women Rode the Bicycle to Freedom. Join author Sue Macy at PUBLIC Bikes for a discussion on her book Wheels of Change: How Women Rode the Bicycle to Freedom. 6 pm.
- Tuesday: The SFMTA Board of Directors meets. The agenda includes providing free Muni for youth, the two-way Haight Street project, an update on the Van Ness BRT project, a presentation on the SFMTA’s strategic plan, and more. 1 pm.
- Wednesday: SPUR Lunchtime Forum: Streetcar Extension to Fort Mason. The proposed project to extend the historic F-Line streetcar all the way to Fort Mason is making progress. Join Rick Laubscher, president of the Market Street Railway, and Doug Wright, project consultant to Fort Mason Center for details on the project, including its benefits, costs and plans for implementation. 12:30 pm.
- Thursday: SF Recreation and Parks Commission Hearing on the JFK Drive Separated Bikeway. Show your support at the final hearing on San Francisco’s first 1.5-mile parking-protected bikeway on John F. Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park. 10 am.
- Friday: Friends of Caltrain Forum: Caltrain modernization and High-Speed Rail Blended System. Join Friends of Caltrain, SFMTA Directors Tom Nolan and Cheryl Brinkman, and Caltrain’s Marian Lee at SPUR for the chance to learn about emerging developments about a “blended system” for Caltrain modernization and High Speed Rail. 8:30 am.
- Saturday: TransForum: How Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) can transform public transportation. “Bus Rapid Transit is coming to Santa Clara County! VTA is planning for BRT lines along the Alum Rock, El Camino, and Stevens Creek corridorsand you have an opportunity to help shape them. Come see what this new service will mean for local businesses, pedestrians, cyclists, bus riders, and the people who live near the future BRT stops in a free bus tour along El Camino Real.” 9 am.
- Sunday: Sunday Streets: Mission District. Spend an afternoon playing and relaxing with friends and family on the car-free streets of Valencia and 24th in the Mission District, one of the most popular events of the year for Sunday Streets. 11 am.
