This week, celebrate brand new smooth pavement and join the fight for a more open government. Plus, more highlights from the Streetsblog calendar:

• Monday: Celebrate Smooth Pavement on JFK Drive. The SFBC’s Good Roads Campaign worked with the city to prioritize this and other pavement improvements on the city’s busiest bike routes. Join the crew as they pedal their way down to the ocean, filled with smooth roads and fun facts about Golden Gate Park. 5:30 p.m.
• Tuesday: SPUR Evening Symposium: The humanitarian and national security effects of climate change. Join SPUR for a discussion of the impacts of climate change, which have raised grave concerns in national security and humanitarian communities. 6 p.m.
• Wednesday: SPUR Lunchtime Forum: Taking (temporary) root: Pop-up storefronts and an urban farm in Hayes Valley. Learn about two innovative ideas for "interim uses" for vacant lots in San Francisco. In support of these proposals, the city is proposing a new piece of legislation that would encourage land owners to offer up their vacant lots for temporary, public-oriented uses. 12:30 p.m.
• Thursday: Open APIs for Government. A discussion of the importance of open government in the era of open data and open source. All proceeds go to benefit OpenPlans.org for Open311. 6-10 p.m.
• Saturday: Different Spokes Monthly Ride. Join Different Spokes San Francisco monthly club ride. There are three options (27 miles/47 miles/57 miles) so you can go at your own pace and distance. 8:30 a.m.
• Sunday: Free Urban Cycling Workshop: Intro to Safe Cycling (Day 1). This four-hour, in-classroom introductory course is perfect for new
  cyclists and those want to feel more comfortable riding on city streets. 10 a.m-2 p.m.
